Lawver Homes is more than just a home-building company—it’s a story of resilience, hard work, and the challenges that come with passing a small business from one generation to the next.

It all started with Gary Lawver, a young man with no reputation, no financial backing, and nothing but a strong work ethic and determination to make his mark in the industry. He began as a block layer, gradually evolving into a home builder, and eventually, a developer and one of the most respected builders in the county. Over the course of 40 years, he built more than homes—he built a reputation for quality craftsmanship and ethical business practices.

But success didn’t come easy. The journey was filled with economic downturns, financial struggles, and years of uncertainty. There were times when homes sat on the market unsold, interest payments piled up, and the stress of finding the next project loomed large. These challenges are all too familiar for small business owners, and Gary persevered through them with sheer dedication and hard work.

Because of the struggles he endured, Gary hoped his son Jarod would pursue a different career path—one with more stability and fewer hardships. Encouraging him to take a different road, Gary urged Jarod to explore other opportunities. And Jarod did.

Jarod earned a business degree from Mount Vernon Nazarene University and took a job with a construction company in Knoxville, Tennessee. But something never felt quite right. The passion for the family business, the hunger to build something meaningful, never went away. Against his father’s advice, Jarod quit his job and moved back home to help with the family business.

It wasn’t an easy time. The 2008 recession had crippled the housing market, and work was scarce. Faced with the challenges of a struggling industry, Jarod once again stepped away, becoming a paramedic and firefighter in search of a different career path. But no matter what he did, the passion for home building never faded—it only grew stronger.

In 2015, Jarod made the decision to fully commit to the family business, embracing the challenges and carrying forward the legacy his father had built. With Gary’s solid foundation and decades of hard work, Jarod entered the industry with passion, motivation, and a drive to push the business even further.

Over the last decade, Lawver Homes has grown and thrived, building upon the reputation that Gary established. While the road hasn’t always been easy, the core values of hard work, integrity, and quality craftsmanship continue to define the company today.
